This Weeks BOOK OF THE WEEK!! May 23rd thru 30th!! The Italian Secretary by Caleb Carr

The Italian Secretary: A Further Adventure of Sherlock Holmes
by Caleb Carr

This book caught my eye a lot when I would wonder Barnes & Noble's and I finally picked it up to find it is a Sherlock Holmes story and that was all I needed to buy it up. I hope that Mr. Carr can carry on Sir Arthur

Conan Doyle's famous detective stories, I would really like to read more Sherlock Holmes novels. I read all of the novels when I was young and own many duplicate versions of many of the Sherlock Holmes stories
(I was quite obsessed)

Let me know what your favorite Sherlock Mystery is in the comment box below!!!

BOOK OF THE WEEK REVIEW!! Blink By Malcolm Gladwell

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking was pretty cool if I must say so :) It was kind of like reading a text book but one that was fun to follow and even better not an assignment. Like Freakonomics, Blink has a fun way of giving you insight on everyday decision making and the effects that they have on everyday life. A book about first impressions and split second judgements Gladwell keeps you interested with his story telling of true events that argue for instincts over information. In some cases going with your gut is the best option (but not always) you will have to pick this book up to see what I mean. I have his first book Tipping point as well and will be reading that in weeks to come.
I definitely recommend Malcolm Gladwell's Blink and seeing that I will be reading a lot of text books now as I am back in summer courses I can only hope that they are half as interesting as Gladwell's writing.

Any questions or comments like always... hit me up... don't be shy ;)

BOOK OF THE WEEK REVIEW!! Blood Sucking Fiends by Christopher Moore

This weeks book, Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story by Christopher Moore was just what I needed. A comedy. All of the books I have been reading lately have been pretty serious and if you have read one of Moore's books you will know he is all but serious :) The story is about vampires and more excitingly an original twist to the vampire story. While keeping with much of the vampire lore the story is more about the relationship that the main characters Jody and Tommy develop. Similar to a Dracula and Renfield relationship but a much more amusing one. The story has a dark comedy feel to it and at times can get rather gruesome but even the most gruesome parts are broken by a sarcastic comment that leaves the reader laughing at the situation. What amazes me about Bloodsucking Fiends though, as in his other books as well, the story line is up beat, gory and humorous but always ends up with a heart warming ending that makes you smile when you finish the book. Moore is a wonderful writer and is very unique...like the way I want my books to be (if I ever end up actually finishing writing one). I am a huge fan and have not been disappointed yet.

For more info or more of my amazing opinions.... comment below...that would be fun, right?

Also just a reminder if you click the name of any of my books in my posts it will direct you to the lowest price on amazon!! Shopping made simple-er??

This weeks BOOK OF THE WEEK!! May 3rd through May 9th...Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore

Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story by Christopher Moore. I have read 4 of his books so far and have never been disappointed. Mr. Moore even replied to two of my emails that I sent to him praising his books and I think that makes him one of my top favorite authors. If you have not heard of him make sure to pick up one of his books soon! I started with Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal and as much as the title may sound blasphemous this book is one of my greatest reads. I hope Bloodsucking Fiends keeps up with the standard this week!

BOOK OF THE WEEK REVIEW!! (Book 2 of 2)May 1st through May 2nd...A War of Gifts by Orson Scott Card

A War of Gifts: An Ender Story by Orson Scott Card. This was a 126 page short story that is a companion to the Ender's Game (Ender, Book 1) series. This could be inserted easily into the original text and again shows the power that Ender has over people. The story is about a character named Zeck who is yanked up out of life on earth to be a soldier in the Battle School. I don't recall this character ever being brought up in the original Ender's Game. Zeck does not fit in because of his religious views and Ender is inevitable sought out to find what is really Zeck's problem and to make things right at the Battle School once again.

I really enjoyed the book and only wish it had been longer. I give it a 7 out of 10 only because it is a book not many of my fans could just pick up and understand, you would need to read Ender's Game first at the very least...also because I just need more of this story.

Orson Scott Card also has a web page where he has more short stories available as well;  http://www.intergalacticmedicineshow.com/  check it out!!

Almost Done!!

My book shelf is almost finished I just need to finish assembling the top shelf. It has been a very busy night for me and I would finish but I will need some help for the top part. Will most likely get it done tomorrow after work. Also I will have my review for A War of Gifts and also reveal this weeks book of the week in the morning... I am dead tired now. Thanks again for checking out my blog and remember to eat your tooth beef sandwich!!

BOOK OF THE WEEK REVIEW!! (Book 1 of 2 this week) My Hart Wer Broken by Ollie Bell Hughes

I am delighted to find out that the woman who wrote this book is also my Great Great Grandmother!! Isn't that crazy stuff? I was not listening I guess when my grandparents gave me the book for Christmas. I actually finished the book a few days ago and let me tell you, it was more entertaining than I thought. My GGG (abbreviation for Great Great Grandmother) shot a lady and almost beat one to death on two separate occasions as the two ladies were fooling around with her first husband!! And no real punishment was given either time! oh to live in the 1800's. The book was very difficult to read though and was written phonetically so were was spelled "wer" and so was spelled "sow" and so on and so forth. I would give you a link to Amazon to purchase this book but it is not on there. You can find this book on blurb.com though. I am not really grading this book as it is memoirs of a family member. I will say though that it was done well and had a good flow up until the end which was just seemingly a list of bible verses that GGG Ollie found appropriate for life. If you are into reading non-fiction or are a member of my family you should read this book. Other wise you will probably not be as interested. Again any comments are welcome just hit me up!!
